IAT Level 2 Germany: 11-13 March 2026
Â
Advanced Clinical Application of Integrative Attachment Therapy
IAT Level 2 is a 3-day advanced skills training designed to support clinicians to confidently identify and treat adult attachment insecurity. Building on the foundations established in Level 1, this training focuses on the differentiated clinical application of Integrative Attachment Therapy (IAT) with the three primary insecure attachment patterns: dismissing (avoidant), preoccupied (anxious), and disorganised (fearful).
Level 2 is where IAT moves from conceptual understanding into finely tuned clinical work. The emphasis is on recognising how attachment patterns organise a client’s emotional, cognitive, somatic, and relational experience—and learning how to adapt therapeutic stance, pacing, and intervention accordingly. Special attention is given to distinguishing unresolved trauma and grief from core attachment disturbance, and to how trauma can shape the treatment process.
This training will be delivered as a hybrid offering (in-person + Zoom).Â
Â
What this training focuses on
Over three immersive days, you will learn to:
- Accurately identify adult attachment patterns as they emerge in live clinical work
- Differentiate attachment dynamics from trauma-driven states and responses
- Develop treatment strategies tailored to specific attachment organisations
- Apply the Three Pillars of IAT with greater clinical nuance and precision
- Use the Ideal Parent Figure method in a differentiated way for avoidant, preoccupied, and disorganised attachment patterns
- Work more effectively with resistance, alliance dynamics, and relational patterns in therapy
The aim of Level 2 is not simply to add techniques, but to deepen your diagnostic sensitivity, therapeutic presence, and confidence in working with complex attachment dynamics.
Â
How the training works
The training is experiential and relational, reflecting the core principles of IAT. Learning takes place through a carefully scaffolded balance of:
- Interactive lectures to deepen practical understanding of IAT and its clinical application
- Group discussions exploring attachment patterns and trauma-informed principles
- Live demonstrations that show timing, language, and therapeutic stance in action
- Practice sessions (role-play in small groups), followed by reflection and peer supervision
The training environment itself models the IAT approach—collaborative, reflective, and developmentally paced—allowing learning to unfold through experience rather than performance.
Â
Who this training is for
IAT Level 2 is open to clinicians who have completed the IAT Level 1 Online Course (or who are above 75% completion already). It is suited to mental health professionals working with adults in psychotherapy, counselling, or related therapeutic contexts who wish to deepen their clinical skill, confidence, and precision in attachment-focused work.
