IAT Level 3 Melbourne: 6-7 February 2026

Case Supervision and Clinical Integration in Integrative Attachment Therapy

IAT Level 3 is the final stage of the Integrative Attachment Therapy training pathway and is focused on intensive clinical application and supervision. Building on the foundations and skills developed in Levels 1 and 2, this training centres on working directly with real case material from participants’ own clinical practice.

Level 3 is where IAT is refined and integrated in longer-term clinical work. The emphasis is on deepening clinical judgement, diagnostic sensitivity, and therapeutic presence. This includes complex attachment dynamics, resistance, and stalled treatment courses.

What this training focuses on

IAT Level 3 is a supervision-based training grounded in participants’ own clinical material, and the gateway, together with onwards group and individual supervision sessions, to IAT Therapist certification.

  • Apply the Three Pillars of Integrative Attachment Therapy to their own clinical cases
  • Work in a differentiated way with complex, stagnant, or challenging therapy processes
  • Sharpen their ability to recognise and respond to insecure attachment patterns as they unfold in real therapeutic relationships
  • Integrate the Ideal Parent Figure method safely and appropriately in complex clinical contexts
  • Deepen self-reflection, therapeutic presence, and sensitivity to implicit relational dynamics

The focus is not on learning new techniques, but on refining how IAT is used in real clinical work — with attention to timing, formulation, and the therapist’s role in the relational field.

How the training works

Learning takes place through:

  • Close examination of de-identified transcripts or audio recordings brought by participants
  • Collaborative case discussion and clinical reflection
  • Supervised exploration of attachment dynamics across dismissing, preoccupied, disorganised, and unresolved presentations
  • Ongoing attention to therapeutic stance, intervention choice, and use of the Three Pillars in complex processes

The training environment mirrors the IAT therapeutic container — relational, reflective, and developmentally paced — using real clinical work as the primary source of learning.

Who this training is for

IAT Level 3 is open to clinicians who have completed IAT Levels 1 and 2 and are working with adult clients in clinical practice. Participants should be actively seeing clients and willing to bring de-identified clinical material for supervised discussion. This training is suited to clinicians seeking to consolidate their IAT training and move into professional application and supervision within the international IAT community.

A gateway to IAT certification process

Upon completion of the Level 3 training, as well as at least 5 IAT group supervision sessions and 2 individual supervision sessions, active IAT practitioners who are also clinicians can be considered for certification as IAT Therapists. Certification is granted based on proven proficiency levels, as evaluated by IAT Senior Trainers.
