We provide a 3-level international accreditation pathway for mental health professionals wishing to support adults to resolve attachment insecurity.

Explore the Training

Attachment insecurity during childhood is a significant risk factor for mental health disturbances later in life.

When underlying attachment insecurity is recognized early in psychotherapy, the therapy process becomes more effective and efficient. The Integrative Attachment Therapy Level 1 training provides all you need to know to begin helping adults in therapy with this state-of-the-art-and-science approach.

Learn how to

Treat Attachment Insecurity

Receive detailed, practical guidance for learning and practicing Integrative Attachment Therapy. IAT builds upon and goes beyond current attachment-focused treatments.

Why Integrative Attachment Therapy?

Integrative Attachment Therapy combines the best aspects of several therapeutic approaches to resolve attachment insecurity and to promote healthy and secure attachment relationships.

This approach recognises that there is no single “one-size-fits-all” therapy that can address the complex and multifaceted nature of attachment disturbances and their effects. Skill with IAT helps the clinician tailor the treatment to the patient and avoid trying to fit the patient to a therapy method.

Multimedia Format

The program includes text, video, audio, and links to external resources that supplement the course material. A searchable text component makes finding content easy.

Frequently asked questions

When does the course start?

The IAT Level 1 training program is online-based and self-paced.  This allows for starting the program at any time that is convenient for you. It also allows for you to integrate your training experience with the practical realities of your life circumstances.

The comprehensiveness of the program — with extensive practical and theoretical information, and clinical treatment description, examples, and guidance — means that full participation is a commitment of attention, time, and engagement.

We do recommend that when you begin the program you maintain regular activity with it, so that you have the best experience of each step along the way building upon what you experienced before.

Are there live Q&A sessions?

Yes. Enrollment in IAT Level 1 gives you free access to monthly Live 60-minute Q&A sessions with one or more of the IAT teachers.

These calls are opportunities for receiving answers to your questions that arise during the training and the application of your learning in clinical practice. Informative discussions are likely to emerge from some of the questions that are presented. These sessions are not obligatory for completion of the program, but we highly recommend them as a resource for vibrant inquiry and deeper experience of the material.

The Live sessions will be accessed through the Dashboard of the IAT Level 1 learning platform.  They will be recorded and posted on the platform, so if you miss a session or if you’d like to review a session you attended, there will be easy, unlimited access.

Do I get a CPD certificate?

Completion of IAT Level 1 provides you with a Certificate of Completion for 100 hours of CPD according to the CPD Certification Service.

Further training and successful completion of Levels 2 and 3 gives you opportunity for Registration as an IAT Therapist (IAT-T). IAT-T Registration includes listing on the IAT Institute website, which is valuable for receiving clinical referrals. Because clinical quality control is of utmost importance to us at the IAT Institute, maintenance of IAT-T Registration requires a minimum of one annual consultation/supervision session with a Senior IAT Trainer.

If you would like to become an IAT Therapist/Supervisor/Trainer (IAT-TST), completion of Level 4 provides for this distinction.

How long will I have access to the course?*

You will have unlimited, no-expiration access to the Level 1 training platform. This provides you with opportunity to go back anytime and review and refresh what you’ve learned in any or all of the Modules.

The comprehensive Search feature of the program allows for entering any term of your interest, such as ‘mirroring’, and immediately receiving a list of ALL appearances of that term throughout all 12 Modules. Selecting any item from that list takes you directly to that place in the program.

And because the program has frequent content updates as advances in the attachment field occur, your unlimited access provides you with opportunity for staying up-to-date and continuing learning.
